Also, you might consider learning from the fate of the "select timezone by country" chooser widget of MS Windows - Microsoft removed that feature because too many countries complained about border lines being drawn that were disputed by at least one side of the border. So if your website is geared towards international customers, you might want to consider either removing the feature or adding a disclaimer that your maps do not necessarily reflect the actual border lines and are only for illustration purposes.
