Ok fellow monks, I am honestly having a tough time making myself do this, but the circumstances under which I find myself are leaving me little choice. I have exhausted all my other options and have come up with nothing, so I figure I might as well try this last near-desperate option. If you want, you can skip the story and reach the much shorter summary.

I'll try to make a long story slightly less long. Firstly, I have finally come to the conclusion that I refuse to work what I consider to be lower-end jobs for the rest of my life. I've made up my mind to get back to school and finish my grade 12 education this fall (starting Sept. 1), so that I can get myself into university fall of 2006 to get that degree in computer science that I am so desiring. The last month or so has been challenging to say the least: first off, my last employer gave me some trouble and I suddenly found myself without a job. I find myself penniless (literally, my bank account is at -$32 and I have no cash). Just two days ago I managed to find out that my roommate (who's name is the sole name on the apartment lease) has not paid rent for the last two months -- not even my share that I had handed to him both months. So the eviction notice for Sept. 6 has been given to us. Once again, penniless.

The horrible part is what comes next. I find out now that to finish off my grade 12, my student fees have to be paid off in full by Aug. 29 in order for me to even be able to attend school for the year. I am eligible to receive student funding to pay for rent, etc., but the money for such things does not come to me until the end of Sept. or possibly even early Oct. The resources I've been searching for have all failed me. All I absolutely need right now is the money to get me started with school. Student fees for the school year total $125 CDN which, like I said above, needs to be paid in full by Aug. 29.

I'm probably hoping beyond all hope that I'm going to manage to scrape enough cash together before then so that I can get my life on the right track to university where I should have been over two years ago (or is it three already?). The eviction problem would be next on my list, but I'm looking at having to find about $500 CDN for first month rent somewhere else plus a partial damage deposit (probably $200-$250 CDN). Yes I'll mention the dollar figures on this now as if I somehow think such a small community could/would possibly loan or donate money adding up to such a larger sum. I am not actually expecting the rent portion to come out of this at all, all I am currently desperate for is the $125 for student fees.

I'm sorry, I know I'm rambling a lot; I'm just going crazy with this issue right now. If I don't get into this school now, it will be at least another year of waiting just to do my grade twelve, and I am not prepared to waste away another year of my life flipping hamburgers for a living.

Here's my offer to everyone who could possibly spare a few dollars. I am not looking for free handouts or donations, just a temporary loan of sorts. I figure the easiest and fairest way for me to organize this would be to accept the money from anyone who is willing to put it forward. As soon as my school funding kicks in and my new part-time job adds to that, I will be paying back every penny -- and more, as I plan on donating some of my own cash to at least one of the perl causes once I have some cash. I would be more than willing to send any funds you can send me now back to the donater if they so please. For those who would rather consider their money gone, the money will be placed into the perl community via donations to the perl groups (perl foundation, perlmonks fund, yapc, etc) the moment I have the money to give back.

So to make it short, please help send a guy back to school by means of donating whatever you can. The total I need to reach is $125 CDN (this second, that converts to $105 USD) so I can pay off student fees and get back on my feet. Any funds sent to me can either be sent back to the donater if so desired, otherwise the money (in its entirety) will be placed through donations to the perl foundation, yapc fund, or the perlmonks fund. If you make a donation, just /msg me and let me know how you want your share handled, or email me at newlifein2k5 [at] yahoo.ca. Donations can be sent via mail to the following address, though they would need to be delivered express to make it to me by the 29th. I don't know if that would even make it in time.

Hell, here's my phone number too, in case anyone actually wants to call regarding legitimacy or to give me hell for posting such an idiotic and off-topic post on perlmonks.

Calls are to Edmonton, Alberta. Long distance likely applies. Jun 29, 2006 - phone number removed

Of course, everybody's best chance would probably be via PayPal, and that method is accessible by clicking the logo button located on saskaqueer's home node. I dunno, good luck to me I guess. Thanks a million times a million (do the math) in advance for anyone who is able and willing to lend a hand (or... wallet in this case).

Jun 29, 2006:
I apologize that it took so long to make the repayment of the donations I received in fall of 2005 . But finally, the donations have been "forwarded" to YAS to the Perl Monks Fund. The donations I had received were for $50.00 CAD, $5.00 USD, and $25.00 CAD (totalling $72.55 USD, according to xe.com June 29, 2006). The donation provided to YAS was for $156.72 USD. Once again, I thank the three fellow monks who were able to help me out last year.
