Sounds like a bad policy too me. And imagine if the early Americans had listened to your advice, they never would have asked for French assistance during the War of Independence... With all the consequences that would have had....

Having said that I dont think this is the right forum, but I dont think its entirely the wrong forum, and I certainly don't agree with your "local community" POV.
