You're comparing apples with pears.

The tsunami was a major international tragedy. Local support couldn't be, and quite rightly wasn't, expected to cope with it alone. That cause was one that was publicised through the correct channels, and many millions donated what they could to help.

One person looking for money, apparently for his education, is a completely different kettle of fish. A much fairer comparison would be with a beggar on the street, and this forum is certainly not the place for that. Family, friends and his local real-world community are much better placed to help out, not to mention actually know who this person is, and can at least put a face to a name and a request.

I have to agree with PodMaster: people clamour for what little money I have everywhere else. I don't need it here as well.
