I use Yahoo Groups for a number of projects. Mailing lists with archive, file area, polls etc.

The down-side is the random spam attempts (Bangalore related job offerings mostly *sigh*), which means it's a good idea to configure the list to keep new subscribers moderated, and then allow them to post after they send their first on-topic e-mail.

Other than that, it's a great service.
