Greatings wise and all knowing Perl Mongers.
I am tying to right a function that will take a regex pattern as well as the regex replacement text s/$pattern/$newtext/ and apply it to a column of a 2 dimensional array ( Snippet of the code below).
When I call this with the arguments
applyRegexToColumn( \@tmp, 4, '(\$?[0-9,]+)','<test>$1<\/test>' ) I get "<test>$1<\/test>" as my results. How do I get the regex to interprite the $1 as a local var and not as a literal?
Thanks kindly.
sub applyRegexToColumn{
my $tbl = shift;
my $Column = shift;
my $pattern = shift;
my $newtext = shift;
my $modifier = shift;
for(my $iR = 0; defined $tbl && $iR < @$tbl ; $iR++) {
if( defined($tbl->[$iR]->[$Column]) && $tbl->[$iR]->[$Column] =~ /$
+pattern/ ){
$tbl->[$iR]->[$Column] =~ s/($pattern)/$newtext/;
}
}
}
