What about a bit of sociable engineering? Change the consideration nodelet to add the text:

"This node has already been reaped and unreaped. Are you sure you want to put it up for consideration to be reaped again?"

Or words to that effect. An innocent bystander coming late into the party may have missed the hue and cry, and this might be a cheaper means of achieving the same end.
