After some quick searches in the usual locations, I haven't found a ready-made solution to what I think of as a general problem. I have a database table (or any abstraction thereof) that I would like to allow the user to query. If it has columns A, B, C, and D, for example, it would be nice to have the user type in:

A>6 AND B<3 OR (C>5 AND B=3)

to generate a SQL query like:

select * from table where A>6 AND B<3 OR (C>5 AND B=3);
One could simply use the input as shown in a SQL where, but that doesn't allow error checking or using placeholders, both important at the application level for safety. Any thoughts on how to go about this?

Thanks,
Sean
