Abstract: Every novel cooperative arrangement of mutually suspicious parties interacting electronically --- every smart contract --- effectively requires a new cryptographic protocol. However, if every new contract requires new cryptographic protocol design, our dreams of cryptographically enabled electronic commerce would be unreachable.
