I think it may be time for you to admit you are the wrong person for the job.

Your lack of understanding assembler/C arithmetic and correspondingly what the underlying algorithm here is leaves me to suspect you really should get honest about your limitations with your employer.

Understand my frustration here, in the professional world there are too many goons out there getting employed and frustrating their employers by outright lying in their CVs. Some honesty makes the field much more level.
