For those geeks out there who have been living the past week or two under a /(rock|pile of (school )?work)/ (like me), today is Valentine's Day.  I know merchants have twisted this day into Spend Extravagantly on Your Significant Other Day™, but I propose another take on today.

How about taking today to /msg a monk of your choice with the above ASCII rose (maybe even followed up with a ++ to one of their nodes) just to say "You're special", "You are cared about", "You being here makes this a better place".  Why?  Because, this day should not be about whether or not you are "in love" but rather to say to someone who may not have heard it for a very long time, "You are appreciated".

P.S.:  I guess this is not completely off-topic as I did mention "monk" once...   :P
