And since # and * are not special in character class, you don't need to escape them. The following in sufficient.
For your kind information, I agree with you for # (hash character), but I disagree for * (asterisk character) because it is a perl regular expression. we have to abstruct the * character to manipulate as regular expression, since droog114 asked to find * character.
