which can be simplified to

   if (/\^E|gmake/i) {
      push(@errors, $_);
   }
}

It would be more reliable to only check the start of the line: 

while (<>) {
   if (/^(?:\^E|gmake)\s*:/) {
      push(@errors, $_);
   }
}
