I'm wondering about parens with if. how come 
    
die "element isn't an array ref" if ref($_) ne "ARRAY";

[download]
doesn't require parens around the if condition, but 
    
if (ref($_) ne "ARRAY") {
   die "element isn't an array ref";
}

does? Just curious about the syntax....
