There's a monk that occasionally appears in the top-right of PerlMonks, tonsure and all, that looks like he came from a woodcut portrait. He's identified by title="Bob" in the markup source. Similarly, there's what appears to be a Buddhist monk identified as "Joe".

I'm curious about where they got their names. Is there a story behind this, or was it merely a moment of whimsy? I'm not even going to ask about that bird-hat thing.
