Unless the person who poses a question like that to me is a good friend and I'm in the mood for an argument, I try to defuse the situation without backing down on what I do.

I'd say something like "why not? it's Turing complete - why would it be less suitable for writing systems in because it employs just in time compilation instead of static compilation?".

Especially if theis person is a C programmer he's not going to have any arguments about the potential for obfuscation ;)
