I rarely send thanks with a /msg because I feel my ++ is encouragement. That's probably because I'm a little shy at times :)

I was reflecting on this the other day. I think the reputation/XP system cuts down a huge number of 'I agree posts'. Rather than having 30 'I agree' posts we end up with a node with a reputation of 30, which says the same thing and the author can feel chuffed about it. The XP boost is nice too.
