Recently yet another "why should I use Perl?" thread was started in clpmisc, the actual Subject being "Why would I use Perl in place of C/C++?". I offered my own verbose advice, but then I found Tad McClellan's which I liked most for putting it all on a single line: technically it answers a different question, precisely "when should I use Perl?" which in turn is a much better question implicitly answering the former one. (You should use Perl because there are situations in which it is convenient. Now we can talk about these situations...) Well, the quote is:
[You should/could use Perl in place of C/C++] when you need to optimize developer time at the expense of execution time.
