Hello monks, I am trying to schedule a small perl script to clean a log file (empty it), trying to find the best approach to do this ,I need to back up the old one with current date before overwriting it . Trying something like : 
{    
    open my $wipe_file, '>', $filename or die $!;
    close $wipe_file or die $!;
    #done
}

this not the best way plus not backing up old file , any advice on doing this in a clean way ? thanks in advance
