                             #  ^^ avoids "Prototype mismatch"
print "restored: ", Time::HiRes::gettimeofday(), "\n";

prints: 

original: 117275763140928
restored: *Time::HiRes::gettimeofday

(i.e. after having been restored, the function prints the stringified representation of the glob $x)
