well thats exactly what a friend of mine meant when she said that the movie points out that the greeks werent the glorified bringers of civilisation as which they are normally portraied. Oh she also said that a spartan would have loved the film since it really captures the spartan mindset. Moreso than when it would have been a "historic" movie. Since historic moviemakers stay away from things like bloodlust and such.
