I tried that -e -- I know I'm using ActiveState 5.6.0 because perl -v shows that. 
my $x=10; # sets $x to 10
$x="2" . $x; # prepends a 2 to $x
print $x+0; # prints $x+0.

except in the form you gave. It displays "210". What is the problem?
