Hmmm... it works for me using OpenSSH_4.6p1 Debian-5, OpenSSL 0.9.8e 23 Feb 2007 on Linux.

I guess it will also depend on your ssh client/terminal emulator, and not just on the OS. (I should consult my UNIX bible)
