echo `expr match "$string" 'abc[A-Z]*.2'` ;

it print 8;

but if insted 'abc[A-Z]*.2' i use 'abc[A-Z]*2' it print 0

is ir\t any difference bewtween them

how *. and * operators work and how thwy match
