Rafaël Garcia-Suarez announced on p5p the release of perl-5.10 RC1 this weekend. There is talk of having a one month Release Candidate cycle. If no show-stopper bugs are found, it would mean that one possible release date would be the 18th of December, 2007.

Why is that date special?

It's the 20th anniversary of Perl.

So download a copy, install it in your home directory and try testing your code on it. I believe adamk is putting the finishing touches on a new Strawberry Perl (and Chocolate Perl -- with extra goodies) release for Windows users.

update: it's out. Rafaël released it live on stage during the French Perl Workshop. Look at it at here or download it from a mirror near you.
