Do you get the same truncation when creating piddles in the perldl shell? On two separate systems (Windows and Linux) I get: 
perldl> $x = 50137.685706

perldl> print $x
50137.685706

I guess I second (or third) the request to see some code. Is it possible you are truncating somewhere upstream of PDL?
