Is there some reason that you have comment characters in the code where you define your hash? This may be part of the problem. $keyhash{$id}{MANY} doesn't exist! 
  $keyhash{$id} = { NAME => $name,
                    REF  => $ref#,   <--- HERE?
                   #MANY => [],  <--- AND HERE?
                  };
