I know this is slightly OT but if there is someone out there that can help me, I'd be very much appreciated.
This isn't MySQL specific I guess, but in terms of MySQL can you explain FIXED WIDTH? I tried googling "mysql fixed width" and it didn't really tell me what it was. The question was "Describe any experience you have with retrieving data from a DBMS such as Sybase, DB2, Oracle and flat files (fixed width, delimited, and binary)."
And while I'm asking already, what would be a good example of a reason you'd store data as binary? The only thing I can think of is when comparing images to see if they're identical.
Thanks for your help
