I was chatting earlier and figured out my problem, so I thought I'd post the solution here. Thanks to tye for helping me out.
I was stripping trailing space from directories in 10.4 with:
$directory =~ s#/\s$##;
My scripts didn't work in 10.5 and it's because the trailing / at the end of the path doesn't exist in 10.5 like it does in 10.4.
I changed my code to:
$directory =~ s/\s$//;
Problem solved.
