I like your post not so much for the Perl aspect, but I never thought of using a function like that to start a conversation using a shell alias. Truly geeky and at least deserving a post in _some_ forum here - heck it was only five lines and two mouse clicks...

Further, it's motivated me to do something even more geeky with Perl (not worth mentioning).
