Perlfunc lists the following possible return values from ref: 

    SCALAR
    ARRAY
    HASH
    CODE
    REF
    GLOB
    LVALUE

Is that all of them? I've got a vague recollection of either encountering or seeing reference to a 'REGEX' type?

Any others?
