I'm not a programmer, more of a non profit admin and long time tech person and we have been trying to install a opensource perl app on hostmonster.com hosted server. They say...:
"Unfortunately, we don't support mod_perl . It's parsed through cgi instead"
... now what should I do? I want to argue the point, but I don't have data to support an argument.
Like:
How prevelant is mod_perl?
What is there justification for not supporting it?
Is it technical or lazy-ness?
Can I install it in/on my domain? If No, And Why Not?
Is mod_perl outdated, replaced my something newer??
Is it that not many programs use it and it is a hassle to admin on their Apache servers?
Or does it create conflicts, Or?, Or?
Is there a work around to using mod_perl?

They have thru the domain host control panel the ability to add with one click, 100's of mods (thru cpan) and they have 50 or so already installed. But all those and why not mod_perl? WHY?, WHY?

My initial email to them was:
====
We need to have mod_perl installed for a perl app we are trying to get working.
I did a search in KB and Forum and no ref. to mod_perl. Could you please install it.
If no, Why? There is a list of 50 or so perl modules that are active and a library that are one click to install, yet mod_perl isn't one of them. Why Not?
====
and I get the lame one liner. So I don't want to fight with them, but would like to convince them to install it.

If it parsed thru cgi, what are the implications of that? I heard about 10x slower.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and helping. Patrick
