Briefly you will tell "configure" to install the module in a non-default location with a different "PREFIX". You must then tell Perl to look for modules in that location, typically with a "use lib" statment or an environment variable like $PERL5LIB.

Do you intend for others to use the code that you write, either locally or in their own environments? Of course they will need to have access to an installed module as well, either pointing to your installation or by installing the same module themselves.
