It's just a matter of quoting. You've to escpape your backslashes \ (\\) or use single quotes (').
"C:\\Documents and Settings\\My Documents\\sample.txt";
or
'C:\\Documents and Settings\\My Documents\\sample.txt';
Otherwise it's seen like this
\D...\M...\s....
