Why wouldn't my renaming a file work when I loop through my array? 
foreach my $x (@files) {
    print $x->{filename} . "\t" . localtime($x->{mtime}) . "\t" . $x->
+{size} . "\n";
    rename $x->{filename}, "TEST" . $ext;
    ++$ext;
}
