If you are on a 64-bit platform, you'll be far better off--performance, memory, support--using a 64-bit build of perl, than restricting yourself to a 32-bit build on the basis of a piece of idealogically motivated FUD from someone who takes pride in declaring that he doesn't use your target platform.
