I downloaded the perl 5.10 source and did default installation recommended in the INSTALL file: 
sh Configure -de
make
make test
make install

[download]
then i did: 
perl --version

[download]
and it confirmed 5.10 then: 
perl -MCPAN -e shell;
install Gearman::Client::Async

[download]
failure...
