thanks for the responses. i am assuming by maintain our own install you mean installing our own perl libraries on the servers instead of using the AIX installed ones - wouldn't we be restricted to using the AIX binaries though, so still restricted to max of 5.8.2? not sure what CPAN is, i am new to perl so not familiar with terminology yet.
