Well, I was sure the new <l>line</l> element (for line oriented stuff like code and verse) was a part of the HTML5 spec but I can't find it in there. I played around with using it by adding it to my own custom DTD about a year and a half ago but I can't remember where I picked the idea up; it wasn't mine. I'm very fond of it though. Beats the pants off of span'ing everything.
