Perl comes with out-of-the box Berkely-DB support. Maybe reading DB and DB_File provides an answer? You could tie the DB to a hash and use that to access the values by key...
Or is there a problem opening the DB? Maybe the files are named *.db but aren't in Berkely-DB format?
