Nicholas Clark announced the first release candidate for perl-5.8.9, the current "old" maintenance branch. See what rafael writes.

Please download and test the RC1 now, and report any failures to p5p. Don't wait, it might be too late then.

Note that this is an "end of life" release, ie the last one in which considerable effort is put. After that only the perl-5.10-maint branch and blead perl will be developed.
