I'm trying to use an undefined scalar inside another scalar and then use it after the initial one is defined. That doesn't even make sense when I read it... maybe showing will be easier:
my $outputString = 'this is a $1';
my $sampleData = "Testing 1 2 3";
my $searchString = "(Test).+";
if ($sampleData =~ m/$searchString/) {
print $outputString."\n";
}
The string 'this is a $1' is retrieved from a database so it can not simply be defined at a different point.
I'm expecting an output of "This is a Test" but instead I receive "This is a $1".
I've tried to implement different ways around this (single versus double quotes, split and then rejoin the strings) but I cannot seem to find a way that works.
