I recently checked out Best Nodes and saw that lhoward's beautiful Shift, Pop, Unshift and Push with Impunity! is now last on the list of Best Nodes of all time. This wonderful node was posted 6 days after I created an account here and was, for the longest time, the top node of all time. Now, with one more "good post", this node will be off the list and runs the risk of fading into obscurity

What do monks think about creating a "classic nodes" page? Perhaps this is merely a nostalgic thought on my part (nostalgia? I've not even been here a year!), but I think it would be nice to have an area where such nodes can be archived, irrespective of their reputation. Do any monks remember the debates that raged over this post by merlyn (or why the node isn't quite what it was)? Perhaps on a more positive note, his Schwartzian Transform and the discussion that follows may fall in such a category. Another example: Why I like Functional Programming by tilly falls in this category, too. And let's not forget virtually everything that Erudil has posted :)

Update 1: I was ambivalent about including the link to one of merlyn's more infamous posts. I didn't do that to rub salt in old wounds. I mentioned it due to the impact it had on the community at the time. It was a very polarizing post that sparked a huge amount of discussion. I still remember losing my temper and lashing out at another monk in the CB. My tongue could have clipped a hedge. The impact that the post had is the reason why I view it as a classic node.

Update 2: It appears that, due to this post, lhoward's post will survive a bit longer in the Best Nodes of All Time list :)
