Your post contains WAY too little info for me to give you sensible advice! What kind of stuff are you tracking (type of data)? How much of this is there (size)? How often (performance) of logging tracking mechanism? How many "producers" of info are there? one, many? etc.

For that matter, why do you even need a DB? Why doesn't just a simple log file work with "datestamp": "message" work? Some of my log files are HUGE, but I can find what I want easily because some serious thought went into what the "message" format is, ie designed to be very easily parsed by very simple methods while at the same time being easily "human readable".
