I received the following error when executing your poem: "Bareword "ALRM" not allowed while "strict subs" in use at poem.pl line 44."

These lines:

    $SIG{ALRM} = sub { say "slip n slide" };
    ride( $boy ), kill (ALRM, $$) for (1 .. 3);
