I haven't used PDF::API2 but, you could

• put <code> tags around code :) print "like this"
• add strict/warnings and error checking ( $obj->call or die "call failed ..."; )
• instead of a fragment, write a complete program that reproduces your problem ( How (Not) To Ask A Question).
• compare your code with examples/022_truefonts
