xml_split does not create valid xml documents.

<?merge  subdocs = 0 :Herkum-02.xml?>
</root>
$$ cat Herkum-01.xml && echo
<a>
  <b>Test</b>
</a>
$$ cat Herkum-02.xml && echo
<aa>
  <b>Test</b>
</aa>
