I think that more of a problem to the OP would be to run a zip file thro' split - which would have the effect of destroying the file to produce a number of individually irrecoverable, same-size chunks.

Of more help would, IMO, be to utilise Archive::Zip...

A user level that continues to overstate my experience :-))
