Hmmm,
Interesting... I'm doing the same thing and it doesn't work for me! Here's my code below: 
my $mw = MainWindow -> new ();
$screen_h = $mw -> screenheight ();
$screen_w = $mw -> screenwidth ();
$mw -> geometry ($screen_w . "x" . $screen_h);
