There are problems with opening STDOUT without closing it first.

I changed 

open(STDOUT, '+>', "/tmp/stdout.log") or die $!;

[download]

to 

close(STDOUT);
open(STDOUT, '+>', "/tmp/stdout.log") or die $!;

[download]

Got 

before=0
after=0
stdout=hello world
at end=12
